Part 02
Chapter 6: Shifting
Cole and Val steal the time machine and travel back in time to find out why Cole was fired from the time travel project.
As they neared the base, Val reached up and turned the destination inputs off, moving them into the normal flow of time again. Cole spoke up when he saw where she was heading. “We can’t fly down into the private hangar! This ship is already in there. We are in the past now, remember? Go to a public dock and follow someone else in, a big passenger ship would be best, so we can hide behind them and I can join the crowd heading into the base.

Chapter 7: Cole
Cole strikes out on his own to sneak into the lab, and what he finds when he gets there would surprise almost anyone.
Cole watched them leave, trying to gauge if they were lying to him or not. In the end, he decided they didn’t know anything about Chan’s plan to fire him. He tried to remember where he had been earlier. He has not been out of bed for very long before he received the Martian message for the Admiral, but he couldn’t remember what time it was when that happened. It was risky, he knew, but he had to go into the lab and find out what that message contained.

Chapter 8: Doctor
Cole checks in with the Doctor, in the latest installment.
“I am not a mere computer database, compelled to answer every question with glaring honesty and rigid compliance! I will not answer any further inquiries until you grant me the same respect I have shown you.” The holographic display furrowed it’s electronically animated brow and then turned off. Cole found himself apparently alone in the office now. He knew that if he spoke, the computer would hear him however, so he knew he needed to say something.

Chapter 9: Reconnaissance
Chan and Val arrive from Earth, and Cole questions Audrey.
He started feeling very ill, and his hands were trembling. He grabbed on to the wall to steady himself and looked around at the hall he was in. At one end was the exit into the lobby, and the other end opened into the main lab. As he watched, he saw himself walk by, carrying a TekBoard past the end of the hall without stopping to look up from it. He ran the opposite way, in case the other him came back, and when he arrived in the reception area and the door was closed, he took another deep breath.

Chapter 10: Answers
Cole finally discovers the answers he’s been searching for.
As he stood there, staring after Audrey, convinced he was still missing something about the situation, he heard talking at the other end of the hall. Knowing there would be nothing good for him coming from that end of the hall, he turned from Val’s door and opened the next door beyond hers. He stepped into the empty apartment and began closing the door when he saw Admiral Chan and Val walking toward him down the hall.
